Early Years (2002–2005)

The Lucky Shots were formed in Sacramento, California in 2002 by Brent Seavers, who was already active with his long-running band The Decibels. Writing more material than that band could absorb, Seavers began a new project focused on concise, melody-driven songs rooted in Power Pop and Garage Rock.

The original lineup featured Seavers on guitar, his younger brother Jordan on drums, and neighborhood friend Joe Gibbs on bass. During this period, The Lucky Shots played extensively throughout Northern California, with early shows also taking them into Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and Utah.

Recording resources were minimal, but productivity was high. The band built a modest home studio and recorded a five-song EP titled Bullseye, which they sold at shows on CD-R. Promotional materials were equally DIY, with early photos, posters, and artwork created using self-timed 35mm photography. A major early milestone came with a performance at Sacramento’s Concerts in the Park series at César Chávez Plaza, playing to several thousand people and helping establish local momentum.

Growth, Touring & Recording (2005–2015)

As interest in the band grew, the lineup evolved. When bassist Joe Gibbs moved out of state, Jordan transitioned from drums to bass, and Jared Constantine joined on drums. This configuration marked a period of significant expansion, with the band playing larger venues and being invited to festivals such as International Pop Overthrow.

With the new lineup in place, The Lucky Shots began work on their first full-length album, It’s The Lucky Shots (2005). The album featured ten original songs along with cover tracks that were part of the band’s live set. As recording experience and equipment improved, the band continued to refine their sound, producing multiple iterations of recordings that circulated widely at shows across the country.

Touring expanded steadily, with shows throughout the western United States and later into the southern states, including Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia. Exposure to a wide range of musicians and regional scenes contributed to noticeable growth in both musicianship and songwriting, pushing the band toward more nuanced arrangements and lyrical themes while retaining their energetic core.

Later Era & Present Day (2016–Present)

International opportunities emerged as connections developed in Europe, leading to performances overseas, radio airplay abroad, and releases through both American and European labels. These experiences culminated in the recording of And Have Some Fun! (2016), a full-length album of entirely new material that reflected a clear evolution in production, songwriting, and overall sound.

Following years of steady touring and recording, the band temporarily paused live activity during the COVID-19 pandemic. During this period, Seavers released solo material while maintaining creative momentum. When live performances resumed, the lineup shifted again, with Andrew Seavers joining on drums, Laura Seavers taking over bass duties, and Jordan transitioning to guitar, forming a four-piece lineup that more closely mirrored the band’s studio sound.

In late 2024, longtime collaborator Ted Murdock joined the band, bringing new creative energy and solidifying the current lineup. This collaboration led directly to the recording of Clearly Opaque (2025), a full-length album with songwriting evenly split between Seavers and Murdock. Released on CD and vinyl to strong international response, the album marked a new chapter for The Lucky Shots and set the stage for continued national and international performances.
